Helpers keep a construction site moving. They work alongside masons, steel fixers, pipe fitters and plant operators, and they are usually the largest group on any civil or building project.
What a helper does
- Excavation assistance and trimming trench sides
- Carrying and stacking blocks, pipes, rebar and formwork
- Spreading bedding material and backfilling in layers
- Placing warning tape, barriers and cones
- Cleaning work areas and keeping access routes clear
What employers look for
Physical fitness, punctuality and the ability to follow a foreman's instructions safely. Previous UAE site experience helps you get selected faster. Helpers who learn a trade on site often move up to assistant mason, assistant fitter or steel fixer.
Working conditions
Outdoor work in the UAE pauses during the summer midday break announced each year by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Your employer must provide PPE: helmet, safety shoes, gloves, vest and eye protection.
